Maisy Lift-the-Flap Book series
Author and Illustrator: Lucy Cousins
Publisher: Walker Books
Target audience: 0+
Format: board book (~12-14 pages)
Size: 158 x 158 mm
I've so far come across 4 titles in this lift-the-flap series (all are board books):
Where is Maisy? (see photos below)
Where are Maisy's friends? (see photos below)
Where does Maisy live?
Where is Maisy's Panda?
All follow the same format, with text on the left hand page, and a simple illustration with a plain background on the right hand page (including a flap to lift). If you are Maisy fans, then you will recognise the usual cast of characters and locations.
My minor criticism would be that even though they are meant to be suitable for age 0+, the flaps are thin cardboard that you need to get a fingernail behind to get open. However, this is often the case with lift-the-flap books, and they are no worse than many others I've seen.
Although they are aimed at very young children, as with most books, with a bit of imagination you can keep them useful and enjoyable for longer. If your child is at the stage of starting to understand prepositions (on, under, in etc.), then this series lends itself well to helping develop that knowledge.
We've also compiled "CVI-friendly" book lists on the following vendors websites where you can browse many of the books reviewed on these pages:
CVI Books receives a tiny commission on books purchased through any of these links.
We would therefore appreciate you using them to help cover our costs, keeping this site viable!
