Ness the Nurse

Author and Illustrator: Nick Sharratt
Publisher: Scholastic Children's Books
Target audience: Toddlers
Format: Board book (14 pages)

"Ness the Nurse has a nice, kind face. She's got ten plasters in her case. That's one for Greg, who's cut his leg, And one for Rose who's bashed her nose..."

Lovely rhyming board book, also useful to help introduce counting. The pictures are nice and simple with plain backgrounds (apart from the tally of remaining plasters across the top of each page). I'm unclear whether there is a US version available or not, but if not, you can easily say 'band aids' instead of 'plasters' when reading to your child, without upsetting the rhyme.

You will sometimes need to cover the opposite page from the one that your child is currently viewing, either by holding a blank sheet over it, or by taping in some blank extra pages. This only applies to three double page spreads, but it does get a little distracting otherwise.
