Same Same

Author: Marthe Jocelyn
Illustrator: Tom Slaughter
Publisher: Tundra Books
Target audience: 2-5 years
Format: Hardcover, Paperback (22 pages)

Published in Canada, this lovely book has really simple block colour illustrations on totally plain backgrounds.

The book explores categories of objects (round things, things that make music, things that fly etc.). What I particularly like about it, is that one of the objects from each category is carried over into the next category, e.g. a tambourine is round, but also makes music, whilst a whale can be found in the water, but is also very big.

It also leads nicely into discussions of what else you can see around you that fits the categories. From older children I know with CVIs, this can be a particularly challenging process, with children also often struggling to apply what they have learnt at home, for example, to another setting. It's really nice, therefore, to have such a bright and cheerful book to aid this process.
